Christ’S Ones

“..your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost….you are not your own…. Therefore glorify God in your body, and in you spirit, which are God’s" - 1 Corinthians 6:19-20

All believers in the Lord Jesus are Christians - CHRIST’S ONES!

To be a Christian means to belong to Christ. In His death, He made a purchase that led to ownership. He now has two claims upon us:

His CREATORIAL RIGHT, and

His REDEMPTIVE RIGHT

It was sovereign, electing grace that made us His own.

There are, however, serious implications arising out of this purchase! One of the main ones being that we should be “zealous of good works”.

In the days of the Lord, a Zealot was an uncompromising partisan, or freedom fighter, of the extreme sect of the Pharisees. In Moslem speak, he would be pursuing a jihad - a holy war. He would have been vehemently opposed to the Roman authorities and in a covert fashion would have sought, with all means available to him, to harass and, if possible, destroy the government, the Roman occupying power.

In the same way Christians are in a Holy war against ‘principalities, powers, the world, flesh and the devil’ and we have to be zealous of - ardently pursue, prosecute - “GOOD WORKS!” It is well to remember that we do this, not to procure our salvation, but because we already belong to the Lord Jesus.

There is another implication involved in being a Christian, it is ,that all that we are and have are His! - body, soul and spirit. Therefore our actions must have the clear objective of bringing glory to the One who saved us, and now possesses us. We can do this in our worship as well as our witness.

What He has wrought inwardly – in causing us to praise His great and glorious Name will also manifest itself outwardly - in our behaviour to our fellow Christians and to the people that make up our world.
