The Precious Promise

“Let not your heart be troubled…In my Father’s house are many mansions…I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go …I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also.” - John 14:1-3.

He is coming to fulfil a promise to His own. AND He never breaks His word.

Where is He now? He is in heaven at “THE RIGHT HAND OF THE MAJESTY ON HIGH” - Hebrews 1:3. His manhood is now glorified. He has truly gone away, and so now we await the fulfilment of His promise to return. In the interval He has not left us in a vacuum. He has given us the Holy Spirit to indwell and He expects us to be occupied in His service. He expects us to watch and wait and watch, and watch and pray.

While it was to His disciples, true sons of the patriarchs, that He made the promise, it is quite clear from the Shepherd discourse that He anticipated OTHER sheep who were not of the Jewish fold. “Them also,” He said, “I must bring and there shall be one fold (FLOCK) and one shepherd” - John 10:16.

From God’s standpoint, this flock is a thing of exquisite beauty, and when He returns it will be seen to be so: "he will present it to himself a glorious church without spot or wrinkle” - Ephesians 5:27. Here we learn that He is going to PRESENT the church as a glorious thing, all the redeemed will be placed alongside Him for eternity!

Let all who look for hasten:

The coming joyful day,

By earnest consecration

To walk the narrow way.

By gathering in the lost ones

For who our Lord did die,

For the crowning day that's coming

By and by
